The temple of Athribis in the context of the religious organisation of the 9th Upper Egyptian province
Résumé
This paper addresses the area of Athribis not in itself but as part of a larger cultic and geographical environment, and in particular regarding its relationship with the metropolis of the province, Akhmim, and with its immediate surroundings. It does not aim to study every mythological connection between the two cult places but will be exploring some aspects of where the temple of Athribis stands in the geographical and cultic context of the area. Thus, it will be focusing on three main points, starting with a general presentation of the extent of the 9th Upper Egyptian nome, in which the temple of Athribis is located. It will then move on to discuss how Athribis is depicted in the documentation from Akhmim and vice versa, according to the remaining sources. Finally, it will focus on the interconnection between Athribis and some smaller surrounding cults in order to examine the temple's role in the local cultic dynamics.
